Notre Dame Fighting Irish Secure Commitment from Julius Jones Jr.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish have secured a commitment from four-star wide receiver Julius Jones Jr., the son of former Notre Dame and Dallas Cowboys running back Julius Jones.

What happened?

The younger Jones announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish on June 22, continuing a trend of legacy commitments for the program.

He played a key role in St. Thomas Aquinas' seventh consecutive state championship in 2025, leading the team with 58 receptions for 876 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Why it matters for Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Jones Jr. is the fourth player from Florida to commit to Notre Dame, joining his St. Thomas Aquinas teammate Zayden Gamble, a four-star safety who committed on April 25.

The commitment boosts Notre Dame's recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 3 overall with 19 total pledges, including seven top 100 prospects.

What comes next?

Jones Jr. will have big shoes to fill, as his father is still regarded as one of the best running backs for the Fighting Irish from the late 1990s to early 2000s, rushing for 3,018 yards and 26 touchdowns in his four years with the program.

The younger Jones is the highest-rated offensive skill position player in the cycle for Notre Dame, coming in just above four-star running back Lathan Whisenton.

Notre Dame's class is headlined by five-star offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola and five-star edge Abraham Sesay.

Jones Jr. has 120 receptions for 1,843 yards and 24 touchdowns in his three varsity seasons.

The Fighting Irish have historically been unafraid to recruit players from all over the country, and this year's class is indicative of that approach.
